Rosie Gives Britney a Shout-Out

Rosie O’Donnell is in full support of Britney Spears showing her True Colors.

In a video blog on her Website, O’Donnell waxed enthusiastic about the possibility that the tarnished pop princess might be making a guest appearance alongside Cyndi Lauper later this month.

“Brit, if you’re watching, honey, you and me—we’re gonna share, like, a backstage moment, ’cause I love you, kid!” said O’Donnell, who has been playing the drums for some of Lauper’s performances.

Rumor has it that Spears will join the True Colors tour for the Los Angeles stopover at the Greek Theater on Saturday. Her choreographer told People last week that the singer had been auditioning male backup dancers in anticipation of the performance.

However, as O’Donnell tells it, Lauper would be among those surprised by a surprise Spears appearance.

“Cyndi says it’s not happening and it’s Cyndi’s tour, so she would know,” O’Donnell said.

But the former View cohost isn’t giving up hope just yet.

“If it is happening, I’m thrilled, because I enjoy Britney,” she said.

Tour organizers had no comment on the situation.

Last month, Spears performed several (poorly kept) secret shows at venues in Southern California and Las Vegas marking her first live appearances in almost three years.

The mother-of-two has reportedly been hard at work on a comeback album, though no release date has been revealed.

In the meantime, Spears recently unveiled a new cryptic message on her Website, reading: “Mother to Grandmother, and my my, you’re grand.”

No word on what the pop star meant by the message, or if it was intended for her own mother, Lynne Spears, with whom she has reportedly had strained relations of late.

Whether or not Spears makes an appearance, there will be plenty to take in at Saturday’s True Colors concert.

Aside from Lauper, other acts scheduled to take the stage include Erasure, Debbie Harry, the Dresden Dolls and the MisShapes. Margeret Cho will serve as emcee and O’Donnell is expected to perform a standup act.

Britney Spears to perform with Cyndi Lauper

Britney Spears is set to join Cyndi Lauper for a special performance on the singer’s True Colors tour.

The troubled Toxic singer is planning a special performance on Lauper’s True Colors tour next weekend.

Britney’s choreographer Misha Gabriel has revealed she will join Lauper, Debbie Harry, Erasure, The Dresden Dolls and The MisShapes on stage at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre on June 30.

The True Colors tour was created by Lauper to raise funds for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender organisations.

Britney was due at Hollywood’s Millennium Dance Complex last Friday to select two male backing dancers but failed to show up.

The star sent two trusted female backing dancers to video the 21 hopefuls, allowing Britney to select them later this week.

The dancers were asked to perform to a track from Britney’s new album.

Hopeful Sam Pete told People magazine: “It was dope. It reminded me of that one song you hear at 1.50 am, when they call last call at a club, and it’s the hottest, nastiest song you’ve ever heard in your life and you’ve just got to put your drink down and dance to it. You’ve got no choice. Your body is insisting on it.”

Britney, who had hoped to have her album out by the end of this year, has been left frustrated to discover the release date has now been pushed back to 2008.

Her representative Leslie Sloane Zelnick revealed: “I put her on hiatus. Brit’s album won’t be out until 2008.”

Backstreet Boys Talk Tour As Kick-Off Looms

The Backstreet Boys will turn a very important page in their career this week when they kick off their first U.S. tour on Wednesday.

When the lights go down at the Charlotte Coliseum in North Carolina, the group will finally see the same sort of success that they have been seeing in Europe for years. “This is our first big American tour here where we’re doing arenas and fairgrounds,” Howie Dorough told MTV News of the tour.

The group has finally reached A-level status in the States, but when the Boys came together in Orlando, Florida in 1993, the musical climate didn’t appear to be ready for their pop sensibilities. The group then spent the next two years honing their craft on tour in Europe, and finally saw U.S. success with their self-titled album (which is currently the best-selling non-”Titanic” album of 1998).

“It’s actually, this is our biggest tour that we’ve put together,” Dorough remarked as the band rehearsed for the tour in Orlando. “We’ve done several tours over in Europe and in America, and America is constantly trying to catch up with the tours over internationally, and now we’re finally on the same page with this last tour here. It’s a really great show. It’s almost two hours, an hour and 45 minutes, it’s jam-packed full of energy. There’s choreography throughout pretty much every song.”

After the tour kicks off in Charlotte, the Backstreet Boys play Jacksonville, Florida on Thursday.

Backstreet Boys To Team With Bee Gees, Blackstreet For Next Album?

The Backstreet Boys will launch its first full-scale U.S. tour next week, but the band is always looking forward to its next record, for which a Bee Gee has already lent an early hand and which may include a Backstreet/Blackstreet team-up.

“It’s pretty incredible,” Backstreet’s Kevin Richardson told the MTV Radio Network, “we’ve already received a couple of demos from the Bee Gees. Barry Gibb actually sent a demo in with his voice on it for us. We’re excited about the possibility of doing some work with him.”

Aside from the Bee Gees, the Backstreet Boys has also touched base with several of hip-hop’s current heavies as well as some old friends.

“The band is also going to work also with Denniz Pop and Max Martin, the guys responsible for ‘As Long As You Love Me,’ ‘Quit Playing Games’ and ‘Backstreet’s Back,’” Richardson said. “We’re going to be doing some writing with them in a couple of months. And there’s a possibility that we’ll work with Diane Warren, Jermaine Dupri and maybe Teddy Riley from Blackstreet.”

The Backstreet Boys will launch their summer tour on July 6 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Backstreet Boys Tap Brother For U.S. Tour

Beating the odds, the Backstreet Boys have found an act even younger than them to open for them on their upcoming U.S. tour.

When the Boys launch their summer tour next month, their opening act will be Backstreet Boy Nick Carter’s 10-year-old brother Aaron. Following the same career path as his brother, Aaron’s debut album is already a hit in some European countries before its Stateside release next Tuesday.

The Irish boy group Boyzone has also spawned a spin off group, this one a sister act called B+Witched. That group (which is comprised of Keavy and Edele Lynch, the twin sisters of Boyzone’s Shane Lynch) landed at the top of the U.K. singles chart the very same week that Boyzone topped the U.K. album chart.

The other sibling double bill, Backstreet Boys and Aaron Carter, will kick off its U.S. tour July 8 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Backstreet Boys Give “All Access” On New Home Video

While band member Brian Littrell continues to recuperate from his recent operation, fans will be able to see all of the Backstreet Boys in action when the group releases its “All Access” home video on June 2.

The Boys won’t launch its American tour until July (see “Condition Of Backstreet Boy Littrell Unknown…”), but previously unseen concert footage included on “All Access” should provide a sneak at the group’s upcoming live show.

In addition to film shot of the Boys during an intimate performance of “I’ll Never Break Your Heart”, the movie also features a behind-the-scenes look at how the group created the ghastly visages for its “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” video, as well as one- on-one interviews with the band.

The Backstreet Boys will release its next single, “All I Have to Give,” prior to kicking off its tour on July 8 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Condition Of Backstreet Boy Littrell Unknown, Summer Tour Still On

Representatives for the Backstreet Boys are withholding comment on the status of member Brian Littrell, who was scheduled to undergo surgery this month for a congenital heart defect.

Some fans have heard that Littrell had the operation this week, but at Littrell’s request, the Boys’ spokespeople will not say if the surgery has taken place, or if not, when it would happen.

Rather than send cards and letters to Brian, fans are instead encouraged to make donations to an endowment fund set up in Littrell’s name for the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation. Checks can be made out to “St. Joseph’s Hosrpital Foundation” c/o Brian Littrell Endowment for Pediatric Cardiology, P.O. Box 8490, Lexington, Kentucky, 40533.

The Backstreet Boys are still scheduled to start a 6 week summer tour in Charlotte, North Carolina, on July 8.

Backstreet Boys Pitch In For Florida Relief Effort

The Backstreet Boys will be joined by Lisa Lisa, the C&C Music Factory, Vanilla Ice (yes, that’s right) and other Florida-based acts for a concert this weekend that will benefit tornado-ravaged residents of that state.

The concert, dubbed “Orlando Bands Together” will be staged in the parking lot of the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando on Sunday with tickets going for $10. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Red Cross Relief Fund and other efforts aimed at aiding residents of central Florida who have recently seen tornadoes ravage their homes.

No Mercy, 69 Boyz, ‘N Sync, Lyte Funkie Ones, Innosense, Take 5, C-Note, Trey-D and 95 South will also be on hand for the event, which will be hosted by the Backstreet Boys.

The current line-up of C&C Music Factory was not specified. One of the group’s founding members, David Cole, died in 1995 of complications resulting from spinal meningitis.

Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell To Undergo Surgery

During Littrell’s recovery, which is expected to take about eight weeks, the group will be working on a new album, due in October. The first leg of the Backstreet Boys’ American tour ended Sunday in Dallas, but the group is making appearances on Rosie O’Donnell’s morning show and the TV series, “Sabrina The Teenage Witch” before heading to Dublin for a March 17 concert.

The group’s European tour will run through the end of April and will return to the States July 8 to begin another round of dates.

Backstreet Boys Handle Stateside Fan Frenzy On Tour

The Backstreet Boys are now touring the U.S., which means that across America, screeching young fans have been pushing, shoving, and otherwise propelling themselves at the group.

This is nothing new for the Backstreet Boys, who have been inspiring similar reactions in Europe for quite some time. Now that they’re making it over here, MTV News caught up with the group to find out how they were handling fan-mania Stateside.

“We’re always concerned about the fans,” the group’s A.J. told MTV News. “We try to make sure that they’re not pushed up against the front, (that we’ve) got enough security. If it’s cold outside, we try to get the guys to bring them hot cocoa or whatever to keep them warm, but those girls wait so long without eating or drinking or nothing and they go in there and get smashed and they’re just dropping like flies.”

A.J. also observed that the group’s audience isn’t just kids anymore. “(We get) a lot of young fans. The really cool part is like recently I’ve been seeing a lot of like couples, a lot more guys, families, young, old, it’s really cool.”

The Backstreet Boys play Indianapolis on Friday, and the tour wraps up Sunday in Dallas with openers Los Umbrellos in tow.
