Britney’s hair won’t be sold, afterall

The singer – who has repeatedly denied having a problem with alcohol – was seen kicking back several rounds of cocktails on June 15, less than 90 days after leaving rehab.

Spears, 25, hit West Hollywood hot spot Lola’s and hung out with four pals at a private table on the bar’s back patio. “She had two Jack [Daniels] and Cokes and an orange-flavored martini,” Lola’s manager, Sylvie Haines, tells Us Weekly, adding that “her whole visit was pretty low-key and she didn’t seem drunk.”

Meanwhile, one reminder of Spears’ prerehab meltdown may soon be up in smoke.

Esther Tognozzi, the owner of Esther’s Haircutting Studio – the Tarzana, California, salon where the troubled star famously shaved her head on February 16 – tells Us she has abandoned efforts to pawn the locks online.

“We just decided the whole thing had to stop,” she says. “The hair’s not in my shop, but it’s in a safe place. I have no intention of doing anything with it – except maybe burn it.”

Clear Channel finally removed the ads

Radio station billboards that featured unflattering photos of a bald, scowling Britney Spears have been taken down after the pop star’s attorneys threatened legal action.

In a letter to Clear Channel Communications dated Thursday, Spears’ attorneys accused the company of «offensive, unauthorized commercial exploitation» of the singer, and demanded that the three billboards in the Tampa area be removed. The letter was posted on the Web site The Smoking Gun. The billboards, advertisements for WFLZ FM’s The MJ Morning Show, depicted the bald Spears and show host Todd Schnitt along with the slogans “Total Nut Jobs,” “Shock Therapy” and “Certifiable.”

“We have confirmed that the billboards are down,” Clear Channel spokeswoman Michele Clarke said Tuesday. She referred other questions to the Clear Channel offices in Tampa, whose representatives did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

“Clear Channel has removed the billboards, and I’m not happy with that,” Schnitt told the St. Petersburg Times.

A call to the Los Angeles attorney who signed the letter to Clear Channel was not immediately returned Tuesday.

Backstreet Boys Talk Tour As Kick-Off Looms

The Backstreet Boys will turn a very important page in their career this week when they kick off their first U.S. tour on Wednesday.

When the lights go down at the Charlotte Coliseum in North Carolina, the group will finally see the same sort of success that they have been seeing in Europe for years. “This is our first big American tour here where we’re doing arenas and fairgrounds,” Howie Dorough told MTV News of the tour.

The group has finally reached A-level status in the States, but when the Boys came together in Orlando, Florida in 1993, the musical climate didn’t appear to be ready for their pop sensibilities. The group then spent the next two years honing their craft on tour in Europe, and finally saw U.S. success with their self-titled album (which is currently the best-selling non-”Titanic” album of 1998).

“It’s actually, this is our biggest tour that we’ve put together,” Dorough remarked as the band rehearsed for the tour in Orlando. “We’ve done several tours over in Europe and in America, and America is constantly trying to catch up with the tours over internationally, and now we’re finally on the same page with this last tour here. It’s a really great show. It’s almost two hours, an hour and 45 minutes, it’s jam-packed full of energy. There’s choreography throughout pretty much every song.”

After the tour kicks off in Charlotte, the Backstreet Boys play Jacksonville, Florida on Thursday.
